Overview
Hampi was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, one of the largest in medieval India, and what's left of it is genuinely startling — temple complexes, royal ruins, and a boulder-strewn landscape that looks unlike anywhere else in Karnataka. Three days gives enough time to see it properly and catch it at the times of day it actually rewards, particularly sunset.
